711 réplicas se han registrado por sismo en el volcán Nevado del Huila
El Servicio Geológico Colombiano reportó que el día 26 de enero de 2019 a las 07:32:24 hora local, se presentó un sismo de magnitud local 5.4, con epicentro a 12.0 km al NE del Pico Central del volcán Nevado del Huila, en el municipio de Planadas (Tolima) y a una profundidad de 9.0 kilómetros.
Este evento estuvo precedido de un sismo de magnitud local 3.4, localizado en el mismo sector y hasta el momento de emisión de este boletín se han registrado alrededor de
711 réplicas, algunas de ellas con magnitudes locales superiores a 3.0 y reportadas como sentidas en áreas aledañas a la zona epicentral (figura 1).
El sismo principal fue reportado como sentido en Bogotá, D.C. (Bogotá D. C.), Florencia (Caquetá), Popayán, Silvia (Cauca), Soacha, Fusagasugá, Funza, Facatativá, Tenjo, Chía, Girardot (Cundinamarca), La Plata, Neiva (Huila), Mocoa (Putumayo), Armenia (Quindío), Pereira, Santa Rosa de Cabal (Risaralda), Herveo, Espinal, Ibagué, Planadas, Gaitania (Tolima), Cali, Palmira, Pradera, Riofrío, Ulloa, Jamundí, Florida (Valle del Cauca) y Manizales, y se han reportado daños en viviendas, vidrios rotos y caídas de roca, todos ellos en el municipio de Páez.
Si bien es cierto que los sismos están localizados en el área de influencia del volcán Nevado del Huila, la cual es una zona tectónicamente activa, donde en años anteriores se han registrado eventos destacados como el de enero de 2014 (Ml 5.2) y julio de 2018 (Ml 4.5). Estos eventos no se localizan debajo del edificio volcánico y no han afectado otros parámetros del monitoreo volcánico, por lo cual no se ha modificado el
nivel de actividad del volcán, el cual continua en amarillo o nivel III.
